A letter issued today by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) confirmed that the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process for the proposed Pebble mine currently being led by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is proceeding well, and effectively addresses all issues and concerns raised by EPA, the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and other cooperating agencies.

A Federal District Court ruled Friday afternoon to grant a motion to dismiss a case brought by multiple groups opposed to Pebble that had contested a decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to withdraw the preemptive veto of the Pebble Project. Pebble CEO Tom Collier hailed the decision as a major victory for Pebble, the State of Alaska, and the rule of law.

After reviewing a copy of the Executive Summary of the Preliminary Final Environmental Impact Statement (PFEIS) for the Pebble Project that was leaked to the media, Pebble Partnership CEO Tom Collier said the information in the near final report was positive and demonstrates the project can be done without harming the Bristol Bay fishery and would be beneficial to communities closest to the project. The document was prepared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
